Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer
Primary Location: Silver Spring, MD (Hybrid)

Summary: We are seeking a U.S. citizen to provide support to the Office of Marine and Aviation operations, serving as the primary point of contact for both on-site and remote personnel. This individual will lead during operational incidents and project implementation, providing input into the development, execution, staregy of organizational initiatives, Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and collaboration. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Expertise in VMware virtual hosting environments, MS Windows Server 2016-2022 administration, Windows PowerShell scripting, Active Directory, and VDI.
• Design and develop complex solutions independently, without the need for assistance from peers.
• Collaborate effectively in a team environment, offering Tier 3 support when necessary.
• Adapt and think creatively to meet complex customer requirements.
• Supervise or mentor team members when needed.
• Hands-on experience in designing and managing VMware virtual infrastructures and Microsoft products (Exchange, PowerShell, AD, Windows Server).
• Proficiency in Scripting/Automation.
• Communicate directly with customers to resolve service inquiries and issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a growing, mixed-configuration environment.
• Manage server patching, testing, and deployment methodologies.
• Handle the operation and maintenance of virtual environments, including patching, antivirus updates, and resolving security vulnerabilities.
• Perform systems consolidation, integration, architecture design updates, and relocations as needed.
• Implement, upgrade, and maintain VMware hypervisor infrastructure, offering technical hands-on support.
• Recommend and implement innovative approaches to VMware infrastructure tasks to improve efficiency.
• Lead the triage and resolution of complex incidents, problems, or capacity concerns.
• Maintain daily operations, monitor performance, identify and resolve issues to ensure system/application availability and optimization.
• Work with other IT functions, such as SAN, Network, Database, and Security administrators, to ensure optimum performance and reliability.
• Research, document, and recommend system technologies that could enhance the operational environment.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, team members, and vendors.
• Apply creativity and independent thinking to problem-solving, leveraging sound judgment and experience.
• Stay up to date with continuing education and current industry trends.
• Troubleshoot complex software, hardware, and server upgrade issues.
• Collaborate with network engineers and technicians on tasks at all levels.

Required Qualifications:
• U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• DoD 8570 - IAT Level II certification.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Four (4) year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience (minimum five (5) years).
• Microsoft certification required.
• Experience with Hyper-V, Azure, and VMware.
• Proven expertise in IT and information security, including monitoring systems, incident response, auditing, and system health management.
• Hands-on experience optimizing system operations and monitoring IT enterprise systems.
• Ability to design and install data networks at client locations.
• Expertise in providing technical support for escalated tickets and resolving critical issues in line with service level agreements.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Scripting/Automation.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities in a complex, evolving environment.
• Familiarity with server patch management methodologies.
