Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Security Engineer (SME) to join our dynamic team in Clarksburg, WV (Remote). The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of security solutions for a globally distributed MPLS infrastructure, ensuring the security and integrity of our network systems. The successful candidate will have a deep technical background and experience in network security management, troubleshooting complex LAN/WAN infrastructures, and implementing security policies in compliance with agency guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Add and manage nodes in Splunk and Riverbed for effective monitoring and ensure system health through continuous monitoring and updating tools using Ansible.

  • Collaborate closely with program leads and DOJ partners to ensure objectives are achieved on time and within scope.

  • Manage information technology security, including backups, firewalls, routers, and other security tools.

  • Provide expert guidance in the design and management of information systems security policies and their implementation within a globally distributed MPLS infrastructure.

  • Provide network security management and support for Windows servers and other relevant systems.

  • Resolve complex routing and Network Address Translation (NAT) issues, utilizing tools such as tcpdump and other network diagnostic utilities.

  • Perform system upgrades and ensure that new security policies are implemented in accordance with agency guidance.

  • Troubleshoot complex LAN/WAN infrastructures, including routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF, VPNs, web proxy configurations, and XML gateways.

  • Work with a variety of networking concepts and protocols, including BGP, EIGRP, DMVPN, and other LAN/WAN technologies.

  • Recommend and implement enterprise information assurance and security standards.

  • Coordinate the development and evaluation of security programs to safeguard critical systems and data.

  • Identify, report, and resolve security violations promptly.

  • Develop and enforce information assurance/security standards and procedures in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Provide ongoing support to customers at the highest levels, assisting with policy and doctrine development and implementation.

  • Conduct systems engineering tasks related to major system designs, integration, and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budgetary, support facilities, and equipment.

  • Analyze and define security requirements for various computer systems, including mainframes, workstations, and personal computers.

  • Design, implement, and engineer solutions that meet security requirements across the network infrastructure.

  • Perform vulnerability/risk analyses during all phases of the system development life cycle.

  • Ensure all information systems are secure, operational, and compliant with industry best practices.

  • Oversee system security tuning, monitoring, user account management, and reviewing patches for COTS software, including operating systems.

  • Execute security system tests and support certification and accreditation activities for all systems and services.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of total experience, with at least two years of current experience in supporting and troubleshooting computing devices and operating systems.

  • Strong technical background with knowledge of CompTIA A+ certification (preferred).

  • Proficiency in both networking and cybersecurity technologies and protocols.

  • Extensive experience with managing and troubleshooting Linux or Unix-based operating systems.

  • In-depth understanding of Application Layer Gateway (ALG), including protocols like RTP, RTSP, FTP, DNS, and HTTP, as well as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

  • CompTIA Security+ certification required; CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) or Cisco Certified Cybersecurity Professional (CCCP) certification preferred.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment, with proficiency in Scrum, XP, Kanban, and SAFe methodologies.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Additional Skills (Preferred but not required):

  • Knowledge of advanced security systems integration and implementation techniques.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based security systems and solutions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
